Child Safety Statement of Commitment
The Wonthaggi & District Netball Association (WDNA) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where all children and young people feel valued, respected and protected from harm.
We have zero tolerance for child abuse and are dedicated to promoting the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of all children involved in our association.
We are proud to be developing our Child Safety Action Plan in 2026, as part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring our Association is inclusive, supportive, and places the safety and wellbeing of children at the centre of every decision we make.
Wonthaggi & District Netball Association is committed to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the following standards:
1. Cultural Safety (Aboriginal Children)
We create an environment where Aboriginal children feel safe, respected and valued, and their culture and identity are recognised in everything we do.
2. Leadership, Governance & Culture
Child safety is embedded in how our association is run, with leaders setting clear expectations and ensuring child safety is a priority in all decisions.
3. Empowerment of Children & Young People
Children are informed about their rights, encouraged to speak up, and are involved in decisions that affect them.
4. Family & Community Involvement
Families and communities are kept informed and actively involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
5. Equity & Diversity
We ensure all children are treated fairly and their diverse needs are respected, including cultural background, ability, and identity.
6. Suitable Staff & Volunteers
All people working with children are appropriately screened, supported and expected to act in ways that prioritise child safety.
7. Complaints & Reporting Processes
We have clear, child-friendly processes for raising concerns, and all complaints are taken seriously and handled appropriately.
8. Training & Education
Staff and volunteers are provided with ongoing training so they understand how to keep children safe and respond to concerns.
9. Physical & Online Safety
We create safe environments both on and off the court, including managing risks in physical spaces and online interactions.
10. Continuous Improvement
We regularly review and improve our child safety practices to ensure they remain effective and up to date.
11. Policies & Procedures
We maintain clear, documented policies and procedures that demonstrate how we keep children safe and guide our actions.
